2010 CubsThe 2010 Cubs will actually end up where it all began 7 years earlier, playing for The Dalton City Recreation Department. I coached these first Cubs while I taught at Dalton High School (1982 -1985). Years later as my son (Logan) began to play baseball, we became the Westside Cubs in 2004, quite by accident, as the then coaches selected the team name based on their beloved Chicago Cubs. As we took over the coaching responsibilities, we kept the Cubs name and insisted that that our boys learned the proper techniques for every function they performed. We built this website for the boys back in 2004 and they became one of the first teams in youth baseball to have their own Team Website. At school, teachers could hear the boys say "I play for the Cubs: we've got our own website" (in their coolest, tough guy voice!) It was kool to play for the Cubs and we worked hard to make sure they understood proper baseball skills. Our overall record was 68 wins with only 6 losses and three Championships. The very best boys on the West side of Whitfield County tried to earn a spot on the Cubs Roster. Today, the Westside Middle School team is made up of 9 Cubs of a possible 12. After three championships, the Cubs became known as a very special bunch of boys. In 2010, these 9 seventh graders are tuning up for the 2011 Middle Season, which will offer a full starting team of 8th graders in a game dominated by eight graders The Cubs always had one rule; every player played and batted in every game. By Championship time at the end of the year, our players were well-drilled and ready to drive in the winning run whenever they had the opportunity. The 2010 Cubs will have lots of new faces. Each player will have his own page that this player can design the way they chose. We rely on team parents to send us lots of pictures that we can post to the website. Don't feel embarrassed that you send so many pictures. We love them and we will upload all you send to the Cubs Web site. Try to understand that there are other players on the field also for those parents with myopia. However, the more images our parents send, the more fun the season will be for both the players and the parents. Try to set your digital camera so pictures are 450 pixels (wide or less). You can set your camera to automatically use this setting. This way when we reduce or enlarge the size if images, we won't lose a lot of resolutioj |
