Dalton

Cubs 7 Dalton 4

Dalton was actually some of the remnants of the Valley Point team from last year.  These boys now play in the Dalton Recreation League.  They are good competition, are well-coached, and have a good well-behaved group of boys.

It was a very tense game to watch with all of 4 of their runs coming on two throwing errors to third base.

Their first pitcher, Zack Glines, was bringing heat and our boys had difficulty catching up with his fastballs. However, he was overthrowing in some cases, and our boys were chasing alot of pitches out of the strike zone.  Zack had four strikeouts in his two innings.

The Cubs did not score in the top of the first and did not leave any runners on base.

In the bottom of the first, Jackson has a little difficulty finding his groove and surrendered two runs on three walks.  This would change in the second inning.  Jackson faced 5 batters in the first.  He walked 3. Clay through a runner out attempting to steal second, one batter popped out to Blake, and Jackson recorded one strikeout.  One of the runs scored on a wild throw to third and the other run scored on the pitcher/catcher exchange.

Dalton 2 Cubs 0

In the Cubs second Clay led of the inning on a walk, followed by a double by Drew.  Clay scored on a wild pitch, Jackson walked and was followed by three strikeouts to end the inning leaving Jackson and Drew stranded.

Dalton 2 Cubs 1

In the Dalton second, Jackson looked like Nolan Ryan (do you think our boys know who Nolan Ryan is?)  Jackson struck out the side on 10 pitches.  Actually, Nolan Ryan never looked this good.  Once Jackson settled down in the second and gained his confidence, he was unhittable.  Since Jackson was out-of-town last weekend, this was actually his first chance to throw in a game-like situation.

Dalton 2 Cubs 1

In the Cubs third Logan walked and scored to tie the game and Blake walked and was left stranded by three consecutive strikeouts.  We chased alot of bad pitches and took alot of good pitches.  This tied the game.

Dalton 2 Cubs 2

With the two-inning tournament pitch rule, Drew came in to pitch in the Dalton third.  Drew pitched well but surrendered 2 runs on a walk and a single.  Both runs scored on an overthrow from the catcher to third base. Drew struck out two

Dalton 4 Cubs 2

With the time limit on us, we were barely able to get the last inning underway. Jackson walked and Dakota was hit by a pitch. Each walked and scored on bases on balls and wild pitches to tie the score.    Chip, Blake and Henson drew walks with two outs in the inning before Clay stepped up to the plate with his 60-inch bat.  The Dalton pitcher made a mistake of throwing Clay "ONE" hittable pitch and if it had not been for the fence, the ball would probably still be rolling.    Clay cleared the bases to end the inning due to the five-run rule.

Dalton 4 Cubs 7

Drew came in to pitch for for his final inning and struck out 3 of four.  Jackson made a superb play on a ground ball hit to third and made a great throw to first but we dropped the ball.  This would have been the third out.  The Dalton coaches held the runner close at first because Clay had already thrown out one base runner (this is seldom seen at this age).  The game ended on a strikeout of the next batter.
