This is Garrett Kelly's first year with the Cubs, so he had more to learn than other players.  While he now plays left field, we are slowly grooming him to be a catcher.  The catcher is the most important position on the field, and we think Garrett will be a "good one".

This may be Garrett's first year in organized baseball, but he is developing rapidly.  Garrett has more base hits than any player on the team and is second on the team in runs scored. He leads the team in batting average (.800) and is among the leaders with fewest strikeouts (1). Garrett is going to be a "great player".  He simply needs to spend more time at home playing catch and swinging the bat.  The more time he spends at home playing ball, the more quickly he will develop.

We see a lot of potential for Garrett, but we are certain we will begin to see this potential as the year progresses. We have already seen significant improvement since our first practice at the beginning of the season and he seems to improve with every practice and game.

Our plan is to begin working with Garrett during practice as catcher.  The catcher position is the most important position on the field.  While Clay is doing a spectacular job as catcher, as the summer months draw near, Clay will be unable to catch a full game, due to dehydration and fatigue.  We believe Garrett can become a great catcher.  He simply needs more time behind the plate, and coaching, to learn the responsibilities of the position.
